Not Every Week Is a Win: Staying Consistent on the Founder’s Journey
Building a startup isn’t always exciting product launches and rapid wins. Some weeks, the motivation just isn’t there. I’ll be real - this past week was one of those times. The work was still there, but the excitement? Not so much.
But here’s the thing: part of this journey is about showing up even when it doesn’t feel easy. So today, I’m giving a look into the reality of those slower, less thrilling weeks that come with building something from scratch.
The Challenge of Staying Focused
When I first started building this product, I thought I’d have the CRM live sooner than this. But as with any project, unexpected tasks and commitments have come up along the way, some of which have pulled my focus this week. These other commitments are progressing well, which is great, but it’s also a reminder that staying fully focused on the product itself isn’t always easy.
Every startup journey has these moments, where the timeline shifts and other priorities take over temporarily. While I would’ve loved to be further along with the CRM by now, I’m keeping perspective and staying consistent in moving toward launch - at whatever pace is needed.
Staying Motivated When It’s Just a Grind
When you’re building a product, motivation can come in waves. Some days you’re running on pure excitement, and other days… well, it’s just about getting the work done. This past week has been a good reminder of why persistence matters, especially when it feels like there’s no immediate payoff.
Small wins, like fixing a bug or polishing a feature, are still steps forward. They may not be the big milestones that make headlines, but they’re the steps that build a strong foundation for when things do pick up again.
Why Showing Up Matters
If I’ve learned anything from past projects, it’s that showing up consistently - especially on the hard days - is what makes a product real. It’s easy to work when you’re excited; it’s tougher when you’re not. But every day of work brings the product launch closer to, even if it doesn’t feel glamorous.
This week, my commitment got a boost on Friday night, skipping the usual weekend wine and instead diving into a late-night coding session to push the CRM forward. Family time was sacrificed, which is never easy, but sometimes it’s what the work calls for. It’s these small, gritty moments that remind me why persistence matters and why, despite the ups and downs, showing up every day makes all the difference.
Not every week will be a win, but that’s okay. Building a product from scratch is about persistence, showing up, and chipping away at the work, even when the motivation dips.
If you’ve been in the grind with your own projects, I’d love to hear how you stay consistent. Let me know your tips or stories - I’m all ears!
